Explaination how Family Planning intends to kill unborn children at it's Hamilton clinic
9 Nov 2009
I should explain the deliberate use of the words "legalised killing on the premises", whereas the official term is "termination of pregnancy" or TOP.
Abortion in NZ is illegal under the Crimes Act, but the CS&A Act of 1977 spells out the circumstances where the procedure is legal and the categories of medical personnel who can refer women for abortions and who can carry out the procedure.
The Abortion Supervisory Committee is "actively considering" Family Planning's application for a license and is likely to grant it.
How will the procedure be administered at the clinic? According to the British Pregnancy Advisory Service"s "Early Medical Abortion: A Guide for Practitioners":
"In most BPAS units, EMA is provided as a nurse-led service, although doctors are required to confirm the woman is eligible for an abortion and prescribe the medication. Specially trained nurses will provide the woman with all the information she requires and observe her taking the mifepristone."
"If they wish and are able, women may administer the misoprostol tablets with a tampon themselves at the clinic. At BPAS, women may leave the clinic following treatment of misoprostol, allowing them the option of expelling the pregnancy in the privacy and comfort of their own home." (end of quote)
So, the nurse hands the woman or girl the mifepristone (RU486) pill which is designed to block nutrition to the embryo, thus starving him or her to death.
It is designed to kill and the second pill (misoprotol) then brings on a miscarriage.
The FP clinic will function like a one-stop shop, providing pre-abortion counselling (after two local certifying consultants have signed approval) and then the EMA procedure.
The NZFPA will receive payment from the Waikato District Health Board.
